Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how Sync School Events (“we”, “us”, “our”) uses cookies and similar storage technologies on our website, what they are used for, and how you can control them.
For details about how we handle personal data more broadly, see our Privacy Policy.
What are cookies?
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website. Cookies are widely used to make sites work, work more efficiently, and provide reporting information to site owners. We also use similar technologies such as localStorage and sessionStorage, which store small amounts of data inside your browser.
In this policy, “cookies” refers to both traditional cookies and these similar technologies.
Types of cookies we use
We group cookies into four categories. Only the strictly necessary category is set without your consent — everything else is off by default until you choose otherwise.
Strictly necessary
These are required for the site to function — for example, to keep you signed in, secure your session against cross-site request forgery (CSRF), or remember the items in a one-step flow. Without them, parts of the site would not work. You cannot turn these off.
- Session cookies — keep you signed in to your account. First-party. Expire when you close the browser or sign out.
- CSRF token cookies — protect form submissions from cross-site forgery. First-party.
- Cookie consent record — stored in
localStorageassse.cookieConsent.v1so we remember your choice and don’t keep asking. First-party.
Analytics
Help us understand how visitors find and use the site so we can improve it. These tags only fire if you accept analytics cookies.
- Google Analytics via Google Tag Manager (
GTM-NL777BHX) — measures page views, traffic sources, and rough usage patterns. Set by Google.
Marketing
Used to measure the performance of our advertising and to show relevant ads on other sites. These tags only fire if you accept marketing cookies.
- Google Ads — conversion tracking and remarketing. Set by Google.
Preferences
Remember non-essential choices, such as language or region, to personalise your experience. Off by default and only used if you accept preferences cookies.
Third-party services
Some cookies are set by third parties when their tags are loaded on our site. We only load these tags after you have given consent for the relevant category.
- Google Tag Manager — tag deployment platform. Google Privacy Policy.
- Google Analytics — site usage measurement. Google Privacy Policy.
- Google Ads — advertising and conversion measurement. Google Ads & Cookies.
Where we send data to Google, we use Google Consent Mode v2. That means even before you accept, Google receives a signal that consent is denied and adjusts its behaviour accordingly (for example, no advertising identifiers and reduced data collection).
Legal basis
For strictly necessary cookies, our legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the Service secure and functional, and (where applicable) the contractual necessity of providing the Service you requested.
For analytics, marketing, and preferences cookies, our legal basis is your consent, which you give through the cookie banner. You can withdraw your consent at any time (see “Your choices” below).
Your choices
The first time you visit the site, a cookie banner asks for your consent. You can:
- Accept all – allow all categories.
- Reject non-essential – allow only the strictly necessary category.
- Manage preferences – choose category by category.
You can change your choice at any time by clicking Cookie settings, or by using the floating “Cookie settings” button shown after you’ve made an initial choice.
Browser controls
You can also block or delete cookies using your browser settings. Most browsers let you refuse cookies, delete cookies, or warn you before a cookie is stored. The exact steps depend on your browser:
Note: blocking strictly necessary cookies through your browser may stop parts of the site from working — for example, signing in.
How long cookies last
Different cookies have different lifetimes:
- Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser.
- Persistent cookies stay on your device until they expire or you delete them. Most analytics and marketing cookies expire within 1–2 years.
- Your consent record (in
localStorage) does not auto-expire, but we may re-prompt you periodically to confirm your choice.
Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time — for example, if we add a new third-party tag or change category groupings. We’ll post the new policy here and update the “Last updated” date above. If the change is significant, we’ll re-prompt you for consent.
